Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award – Celebrating the Best of the Best in Football. Super Bowl MVP!
The Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award, or the MVP award, is an award presented to the player deemed most valuable in the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), otherwise known as the Super Bowl. The award has been given out since Super Bowl V, which was held on January 17th, 1971. Since then, it has become one of the most prestigious awards in professional sports and is widely recognized and celebrated by football fans across America.
To be eligible for consideration for this honor, a player must have played at least two-thirds of all offensive or defensive plays during a given year’s NFL season. Additionally, any player who wins this honor will receive additional recognition such as a trophy and an additional bonus from their respective team that can range between $50-$500 thousand dollars depending on their contract with their team.
The selection process for determining who will win this prestigious honor begins immediately after each Super Bowl game ends when members of both teams’ coaching staffs meet to discuss possible candidates for the MVP award. They generally select three potential players and submit them to a panel of 18 media members who cast secret ballots to determine which individual will win this coveted trophy. This panel typically consists of veteran sports writers and broadcasters who are familiar with all aspects of pro football including offense, defense, special teams and overall performance throughout the season.
Once selected by this panel as being worthy recipients of this esteemed accolade they are presented with their trophies during an official ceremony shortly after the conclusion of that year’s Super Bowl event. Upon receiving these honors they also receive lifelong bragging rights as well as having their name become part of NFL history forever more!
Over its 50 plus year run numerous incredible athletes have earned themselves MVP awards including some legendary players such as Joe Montana (4x winner), Terry Bradshaw (2x winner) Tom Brady (4x winner) and Peyton Manning (2x winner). Each one had great success in their career but were able to prove why they deserved recognition above all others during those particular years when it mattered most – at the biggest stage in American pro football – The Super Bowl!

Payton was born on July 25th, 1954 in Columbia, Mississippi and attended Jackson State University where he set several records and earned All-America honors. Payton began his professional career with the Bears when they drafted him in 1975. During his time with the team, he quickly established himself as a premier player in the league by setting numerous records – including becoming the first NFL player to ever rush for more than 1,000 yards in seven consecutive seasons. He also became just the second rusher to ever run for more than 2,000 yards in a single season (1984), while leading his team to its first playoff victory since 1963. His performance during this period earned him eight Pro Bowl selections (1977-1980; 1982-1985; 1987) and five First Team All Pro selections (1977; 1979-1981; 1984). Off of the field, Payton was known for being a public figure dedicated to giving back. In 1999 he established The Walter & Connie Payton Foundation which works to provide educational opportunities for underprivileged children through various programs such as scholarships and mentorship initiatives. Additionally, he founded “Walter’s Run” which helps raise funds to fight cancer – an illness which claimed his life on November 1st 1999 at age 45 due to complications from bile duct cancer.
