The Las Vegas Raiders are a professional American football team based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Raiders compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The Raiders play their home games at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. Founded on January 30, 1960, the team began play as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). They moved to Oakland, California in 1966 and remained there through 2019 before relocating to Las Vegas in 2020.
The team is known for its extensive fan base and distinctive team culture. With an iconic logo and uniforms inspired by pirate motifs, they have become one of pro football’s most recognizable franchises. On the field, they have won three Super Bowl championships—in 1976, 1980 and 1983—as well as 15 division titles and four conference championships. They also hold the NFL record for most consecutive road wins with 18 from 2002–03 season through 2004–05 season. Led by Hall of Fame head coach John Madden from 1969-78, they were one of only two teams to win both AFL and NFL championships during his tenure; this feat was later duplicated by the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick who coached from 2000-19). Current head coach Jon Gruden has led them back to title contention after taking over prior to 2018 season; just two years later he earned his second career Super Bowl victory with them when they defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9 at 2021’s ‘Super Bowl LV’ held in Tampa Florida Feb 7th 2021.
He is joined by general manager Mike Mayock who was appointed prior to 2019 season; both men have been credited with rebuilding a roster that had gone 4-12 in 2017 & 6-10 in 2018 into consistent contenders since then.. In 2020 they relocated permanently to Las Vegas where construction on their new stadium ‘Allegient Stadium’ began shortly thereafter – it opened ahead of schedule ahead of schedule just months later albeit without fans due pandemic protocols..
