The Miami Dolphins are a professional American football team based in the South Florida city of Miami, Florida. The Dolphins compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The Dolphins play their home games at Hard Rock Stadium in the northern suburb of Miami Gardens, and are headquartered in Davie, Florida. The Dolphins were founded by attorney-politician Joe Robbie and actor-comedian Danny Thomas. They began play in the AFL in 1966 as an expansion team. The region had not had a professional football team since the days of the Miami Seahawks, who played in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1946 before becoming the first incarnation of the Baltimore Colts. For cthe 2017 season , they have been coached by Adam Gase since 2016.
He is currently under contract through 2020.$5 million bonus for head coach Brian Flores when he signed his five-year deal with them on February 4th 2020 . Miami has won two Super Bowl championships; one following their perfect 1972 season, led by quarterback Bob Griese and Hall of Fame running back Larry Csonka; and another 20 years later following an AFC Championship Game victory over rival New York Jets behind quarterback Dan Marino’s record 48 touchdown passes during that season. They also appeared twice in conference championship games, but lost both times to eventual champions – once to Denver Broncos after having defeated San Diego Chargers earlier that same year due to their famous “Hail Mary” pass from John Elway to Vance Johnson which was caught for a game winning touchdown – and then again to Buffalo Bills four years later during Buffalo’s run of four consecutive Super Bowl appearances.
In addition to these successes, Miami has achieved a unique triple crown which no other NFL franchise can claim; they are one of only three teams ever to win all three major trophies: Super Bowls VI & VII (1972 & 1973), AFC Championships (1984 & 1985), and AFC East titles (1971–74 & 1979). Furthermore, they have made nineteen playoff appearances throughout their history and remain one of only six teams never to have suffered a losing season while playing within either NFL or AFL leagues. Despite this success however, there have been tumultuous times for Dolphin fans over recent decades – most notably between 2000–2011 where they finished with losing records eight out nine seasons culminating with just 6 wins out 16 attempts during 2011 campaign which saw long time Head Coach Tony Sparano relieved from duty midseason being replaced interim basis by Todd Bowles who would go onto become successful head coach elsewhere afterwards despite brief stint here where he went 2–1 overall down stretch including regular season finale upset win over New England Patriots ending Tom Brady’s streak 21 straight victories against divisional opponents coming into that day’s match up!
