The Arizona Cardinals are an American football team located in Phoenix, Arizona. The Cardinals compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. Founded in 1898 as an amateur football team in Chicago, Illinois, the franchise moved to St. Louis, Missouri and then to Phoenix, Arizona in 1988. The Cardinals have won two NFL championships and one Super Bowl since their founding; they are also currently the oldest continuously run professional American football club in the United States.
As a charter member of the NFL, the Cardinals have had many successful players over their history including Larry Fitzgerald, Kurt Warner and Adrian Wilson. The current head coach is Kliff Kingsbury who was hired on January 8th 2019 after being fired by Texas Tech University at the end of 2018 season with 5-7 record and 0-1 bowl game appearance during his time there. The team plays its home games at State Farm Stadium which was formerly known as University of Phoenix Stadium until September 2018 when it changed names due to naming rights issues with sponsorships from companies such as Nike and State Farm Insurance Company respectively. The Cardinals were founded back in 1898 when Chris O’Brien purchased used uniforms from local high school teams for his own amateur squad called Morgan Athletic Club which he later renamed Racine Normal Athletic Club before finally settling on what became known today as The Arizona Cardinals. They entered into league play for only two years before disbanding but would later return under different ownership groups starting with Charles Bidwill Sr., who ran them from 1933-1947 until his death when his son Bill took over operations until 1972 when he sold majority ownership stake to fellow owners Art Rooney of Pittsburgh Steelers fame and Bill Bidwill Jr., son of Charles Sr..
In 1987 they announced that they would be relocating to Phoenix where they remain today becoming first major professional sports franchise located within state boundaries bringing with them a new era that included some memorable moments like winning their first ever playoff game against Dallas Cowboys 21-20 on December 28th 1998 led by quarterback Jake Plummer along side wide receiver Rob Moore catching go ahead touchdown pass late fourth quarter followed up by defense stopping Cowboys final drive attempt sealing victory leading them onto second round where they eventually lost 48-10 against Minnesota Vikings ending dream season prematurely . Further more , following retirement of legendary quarterback Kurt Warner after 2009 season , new wave came into effect featuring newly acquired quarterback Kevin Kolb who couldn’t seem bring success desired ultimately leading up to drafting current star QB Carson Palmer 2013 Draft whom lead Cards all way NFC Championship Game 2015 losing eventual champion Denver Broncos 20 – 18 heartbreaker . This period also marked start string Pro Bowl selections rookie running back David Johnson 2016 campaign . Today , organization remains committed providing fans best possible product field while continuing develop young talent such Kyler Murray whom taken helm offense last year electrifying airwaves city excitement behind him hoping capture elusive championship title soon future fullest potential realized .
